November is 'Giving in Grace' month!

Please make sure you picked up your envelope containing all the details. If there isn’t one for you it’s because you’re not on our contact list, so do let us have your details and take a ‘Friend of St Andrew’s’ envelope instead. The highlights of the month are our guest speaker on Sunday 19 November at 10am – Clare Fussell, the Diocesan Giving and Resources Advisor – and the discussion group to think further about Christian giving.

Message from Revd Phil

A big thank you to everyone at St Andrew’s for your very generous gift. The tree has been planted and the rest of the garden is looking forward to the future! I particularly want to thank all the children for their card – it was HUGE and the biggest one I have ever received. Love and prayers, Phil.

Parish Boundary Changes

Our Standing Committee (Sally, Karen, Simon and Susan) met with St John’s Standing Committee and agreed that we would agree with the Diocesan proposal to move the boundary between our two parishes up to Thamesdown Drive. We are expecting this change to take place on 1 December (though the Diocese has still to confirm this). The change makes no difference at all to which church you can worship at, but it does mean that we will lose our connections with Orchid Care Home and with St Francis School. St Andrew’s last service at St Francis will be the All Age Service at 4pm on Sunday 26 November when we will formally hand the school over to St John’s. Please come and support this important event in the life of both our churches. Helen and Linda will continue to run the drop-in at St Francis School and we, and St John’s, are really grateful to them for that.

Ladies Night Out, Friday 1 December, 7.30pm

It’s a while since we’ve been out for a meal, so we thought there is just time before Christmas to enjoy a night out at the Hongxin Chinese Buffet in Peatmoor. Everyone welcome – as long as you’re female! £5 deposit. Contact Lyn Jones at

Toy Service

As always, the 10am Children’s Service in December (3rd) will be a Toy Service. We encourage you to donate any toys which you have grown out of but are still in good condition. These will be donated to the women’s refuge. Please give generously.

Tadpole Farm Academy - Advance Warning

As we will no longer be holding an all age service at St Francis School, we are exploring the possibility of doing something similar at Tadpole Farm Academy instead. We will be running an All Age Service at the school on Sunday 3 December at 4pm. Everyone is welcome and we hope some families from the school will join us. We will encourage donations of toys as at the morning service.

Christmas is Coming

PCC is really keen that we should all help out with the many jobs over the Christmas period so that the whole church family is involved in welcoming visitors to our services. Look out for the list to sign up for a job.

Time to help?

At St Andrew's

There are always plenty of jobs to do, so, if you do find you have spare time and would like to be involved in church life in a new way, please speak to Sally, Karen or Simon.  With Christmas approaching, we are particularly aware of the need for good publicity for our Christmas services, so if you feel you could help produce or distribute this, please let us know.

In Schools

Open the Book is a national initiative for teams of lay people to take Bible stories into Primary School Assemblies regularly.  The team has fun rehearsing the stories, making props and communicating the Bible with children.  Christ the Servant is setting up a team from local churches to go into local schools.  The meeting for more information is being rescheduled so speak to Sally if you are interested in finding out more.

In Swindon Law Courts

There are plans to start a chaplaincy in Swindon Law Courts and for volunteers to re-open the cafe there.  If this is something you feel you could help with, see the poster on the noticeboard or contact Martyn Cook, tel: 01793 8225535.  email:
