Christmas is Coming!
Just as we’ll all have lots to do to prepare for Christmas at home, there are plenty of ways we can help make Christmas great at St Andrew’s as well. If everyone could spare an hour on one of the following things, we would be sure that many people in our parish will know what’s going on and have the chance to come along. Please sign one of the lists on the bookcase or let Sally know what you can do. Thank you in advance:
Parish Council Fair, Saturday 17 November, 11-3pm, at Redhouse Community Centre.
The (civic) parish council are very happy for us to hand out leaflets for our Christmas services. Two people for each hour would be ideal.
House to house leafleting
Last year we know people came to our services because a leaflet was put through the door. Please sign up for your street if you live in the parish or choose a few roads you would like to distribute to. I have it on good authority that up to 100 houses can be visited in an hour, so we could cover a lot of houses if we all gave one hour.
Dates and times of our ChristmasServices are available on our website and will be on paper soon. Also, please note particularly, and come to join us:
Decorating the church, 3-5pm, Saturday 15 December.
Carol Singing at the Jovial Monk, Saltzgitter Way, 7.30pm, Tuesday 18 December
As normal, we will be collecting new (and nearly new) toys on Sunday 2 December at our Toy Service as a Christmas present for the Women’s Refuge. Please bring your donation to the service at 10am.
The Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust received over £200 from your donations, thanks to Logan and Allen Kelly taking part in this year’s Ride and Stride.
Swindon Food Collective received many bags of food and a donation following our Harvest Festival. Don’t forget we collect imperishable food items for them every week, so please get into the habit of bringing something along for the collection.
Raising money for free!
We’ve registered with easyfundraising and we need your help. Easyfundraising is a great website where you can help St Andrew's raise funds simply by doing your everyday online shopping with over 3,300 big name retailers like Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, ASOS, Booking.com, eBay, Boden, and M&S. Every time you shop, we receive a small donation to say ‘thank you’ and it’s completely free too! We want to raise as much as possible so please sign up and help us at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/standrewchurchns/
The Journey in Old Town, Sunday 9 December
"The Journey" is a major ecumenical Christmas community project which will tell the story of the birth of Jesus in a colourful, interactive and imaginative way. It will begin in Old Town and finish at Christ Church and there are 2 performances at 12noon and 4pm. You can get a free ticket or be part of the cast in ‘the sea of people.’ Visit www.oldtownjourney.co.uk for more details.
Please continue to use our weekly prayer diary and particularly pray for those who find remembering lost loved ones and experiences of war difficult in November.
