We've an idea for next Lent, which we'd like to ask for help with right now.
A lot of people give something up for Lent. But it can be even more rewarding to do something new. Lent books are a great way to do do this - they give you a couple of pages to read each day in Lent, to think about the days leading up to Holy Week and Easter in a different way. They come in all kinds - see below for a few examples.
For next Lent we would like to be able to offer the congregation a library of Lent books to borrow one from. We'll buy some, but many congregration members already have one or more. It would be excellent if you could lend us any Lent books you can spare, ready for next year's Lent. We'll keep the safe (but put your name if you want them back). Then in the weeks leading up to Lent 2027 we'll make the Lent Book Library available so anyone who wants to can borrow a Lent book for the season.
The reason we're asking now is you make have just used a Lent book, and so have it to hand - though we're happy to take as many as you have available.
Just bring them along to church and either give them to Brian or Sally, or pop them on the bookshelf in the corner.
Here are a few examples of Lent Books if you haven't come across them:

In the midst of our noisy, fast-paced world, finding moments of stillness can seem impossible, and the idea of staying silent, perhaps even a little daunting. Yet, these moments are where true peace and spiritual depth reside. A Season of Silence invites you to embark on a transformative journey through the practice of silent, listening prayer. Over 40 days, this book offers daily steps that will gradually and gently guide you into a richer and deeper experience of contemplative silence. Each day offers a short reflection, a thought-provoking quotation from the Bible and other wisdom sources, and practical exercises to help you as you begin to cultivate a lifelong habit of contemplative silence. |

Lent is Easter in disguise, a radical, subversive season of resistance. A blend of contemporary spirituality, scriptural reflection and tales from one of the UK’s youngest nuns make this a vibrant take on an ancient season. This Lent she challenges Christians to do more than give up chocolate: Lent is God’s invitation to shake up your life, rattle your parish, and change the world. Learn from Jesus the spiritualities that he passed onto his disciples, including solidarity, poverty, hospitality, peace-making and protest. |

Journey through Lent with the insight and imagination of the Oxford Inklings - a group of writers who reshaped Christian thought and storytelling in the twentieth century. Drawing on the work of some of the Inklings’ most well-known members, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as friends of the Inklings such as Dorothy Sayers and T.S. Eliot, Wardrobes and Rings explores through their eyes a faith which is tinged with seriousness, creativity and joy. Weekly themes such as temptation, time, nature and creativity guide the way. |
