If you've been to St Andrew's recently you might have noticed scaffolding up at the west end of the church.
This is because we had a problem with one of our bells, meaning we've only been able to ring one for some time now. During the first two weeks of November, our bell repairer undertook repairs and sprucing up of the bells.
The main problem was with the bigger of the two bells - the left hand one as you look from near the church door. The bar that runs out from the bell and that is connected to the inside of the church by a cable has bent upwards. This means that when the bell is rung, unless it's done very carefully, the rod hits the stonework above.
Now the repairs are complete, we have both bells in action again. Thanks to Helen for making sure this all went smoothly.
Update - 12 December
We have just had another addition to St Andrew's to make the church more accessible. Thanks to some excellent work by Compton Welding, we now have two handrails, one to get up the chancel step and the other to help manage the steps at the entrance.
The stylish handrails look as if they have always been part of the church.
Thanks to Karen for her work on these.
