Green Festival

On Sunday the 7th of June we held an Outdoor Service as part of the Swindon Churches Green Festival which took place across the Swindon Deanery from the 6th to the 14th of June. This week-long event aimed to unite the community under the shared goal of protecting the planet and fostering a sustainable local environment.

As part of St Andrew’s contribution an annual Bug Count took place in the Church Yard with young and old joining in.

Children received stickers, as a thank you, after their ‘Bug Hunt’ from Caring for God’s Acre, a charity promoting the conservation of burial sites and supporting the people who look after and maintain them.

Martina battled the wind to lead an enjoyable service in the churchyard.

Margot, our youngest reader (six years old), read to us from the Book of Genesis. Followed by a short talk on our responsibility to look after God’s Creation for all generations to come… our children and our children’s children.

And we could not have planned the date of the event better, as it was also the International Environment Sunday.

We were fortunate enough to conduct the entire service outside, sitting on chairs and blankets, while the rain kindly held off until after the service. And whether on a seat, a rug or the grass, the congregation enjoyed taking part.
