VE Day Bell Ringing

On the evening of Thursday 8th May, the bells of St Andrew’s rang loud and clear to mark the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. Back in World War II, churches across the country kept their bells silent, only to be rung in case of invasion, so when they finally pealed in celebration in 1945, it was a moment of pure relief and joy. This year, St Andrew’s joined in the nationwide tribute, with a small group of members and friends gathering to take turns at the ropes. As the evening light faded, the chime of the bells carried through the nearby estates as a simple and powerful reminder of peace and the people who fought for it.
